Chili Con Carne

Cooking time: 1 hour

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper, and cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes and kidney beans to the pot, along with their juices. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste the chili and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve hot with optional toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.

  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
