  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook the mixture for another 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Add salt, pepper, and paprika (if using), and mix well.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to the greased baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
